    2. How do I access my NAS remotely over the internet?

    2. In order to access the configuration page of your NAS over the internet, you need to open port 80 on your router for the IP address of your NAS.

      Note: There are NO settings on the NAS needed to allow remote access

      If you have a D-Link router, please follow these steps to open the port

      Note: For other routers, please check with the manufacture for instructions on how to open ports

      How to open port 80 on your D-Link Router

      Step 1: Open your web browser and enter the IP address of the router into the address bar- The default IP is or click

      Step 2: You should be taken to a D-Link login page. By default, the username is admin and there is no password.

      If you do not remember your router admin password, you will need to reset the router to factory default settings. Click here for reset instructions- How do I reset my router?

      Step 3: Click on the Advanced Tab at the top and Virtual Server on the left side

      Step 4: Open the port:

      - Name: Enter a name for the rule (ie. NAS)

      - IP Address: Enter the IP address of your NAS

      - Port: Public- 80

      - Port: Private- 80

      - Protocol: TCP

      - Schedule: Always

      Step 5: Once the port is open, from a different network, open a web browser and enter your Public IP address into the address bar (ie. Your NAS login page should appear.

      Note: To find your Public IP address, from the same network as your NAS go to http://www.whatismyip.com/
